Help Stop a 747 From Crashing in Uganda!

World Malaria Day – April 25, 2008

Friday, April 25, is World Malaria Day – a day designated to educate people about malaria and in turn, help prevent the cycle of disease, poverty, and death in third world countries.

Globally, more than 500 million people are infected with malaria, accounting for more than 1 million deaths each year. 90% of these deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria, making it the leading cause of death for African children under five years old. To put this in another perspective, it is equivalent to a full 747 passenger jet crashing every 3 ½ hours! Those who do survive must deal with the added hardships that malaria leaves behind. Learning disabilities, neurological problems, and anemia are not uncommon.  Although the statistics are staggering, steps can be taken to prevent malaria from claiming more lives.

One of the simplest and most affordable ways to stop the spread of malaria is to protect people with the use of mosquito nets. Since disease-spreading mosquitoes are most active during the evening and night-time, sleeping under a net provides the necessary protection against bites and possibly death. Campaigns around the world are joining forces to provide as many nets as possible to the tropical and sub-tropical regions that are most affected.  $10 can provide a life-saving net for a child and family in Africa or another third world country.

Will you join this global effort to help eliminate malaria?

Here’s how you can help-

  • Provide funds for mosquito nets at: http://www.showmercy.org/donate or mail your donation to P. O. Box 607, Albany, Oregon 97321
  • Pray for children affected by malaria
  • Encourage others in this effort

Together, we are making a difference in the lives of children all over the world!

For as little as $10, you can save a life today!

Thank you for joining me to reach out in love, one child at a time.

Renata has a great gift of writing and will be working on articles for our upcoming Show Mercy newsletters.  They currently live in the beautiful Oregon countryside near Independence. God has been doing a work of compassion in their hearts for the millions of children in third world countries who are struggling to simply survive. Their prayer is that a vast army of people will join in the effort to help these children find hope, healing, and ultimately the love of God through a relationship with Him.
