Celebrate Success- Injustice is Being Removed

Grandma Has a CareGiver

We wanted you to join with us in the celebration of giving hope and assistance to a few of those who have been experiencing injustice in their lives. Because you have responded to that cry of injustice, Grandma and little Prossy now have a chance for a better life.

First of all, together, we were able to provide a local caregiver for Grandma who will come in daily and help her with cooking, cleaning and general support and encouragement. This not only provided help for Grandma, but also provided an opportunity for another local Ugandan to express love and compassion to their fellow Ugandans. Grandma is very appreciative of the help that has been given her.  Injustice is being removed!

Prossy is now Safe and Loved

Secondly, we recently posted a message about Prossy, an 11 year old girl, whose mother had just passed away from AIDS. Because of your response, Prossy is now living at Hope Children’s Home where she is being cared for and loved by our local staff.  She will also have the opportunity to receive an education at our primary school because of your response.  Prossy’s life is now headed in the right direction. We look forward to seeing the change in her life when we visit in January.

Injustice is Being Removed

The bottom line is that through your partnership with Show Mercy, together, we are seeing injustice removed from the lives of many people, one life at a time. There are still many children in situations like Prossy was that need our help.  We encourage you to read the information about these children and consider being one who can join with us to fight injustice and remove oppression from a child’s life. Special Dolls with a Special Mission

Some special dolls were made for Show Mercy International with a special mission–to help us silence the cry of injustice!  Purchase of these dolls helps us to positively impact the lives of the children we serve.

Africans love to wear vivid colors and patterns in their native clothing. These dolls were handmade with love in Uganda using a wonderful array of authentic African fabrics of bright shades and happy patterns.  The dolls depict the native styles of Ugandan men and women.  The male dolls look smart wearing their brightly colored pants and tunic tops.  The female dolls are wearing traditional dresses and have tiny babies wrapped up on their backs.  Their faces and curly black hair are all hand stitched.

We believe this unique gift will bring delight to its receiver. One mother who purchased a male doll told us that her son sleeps with his African boy doll each night.  We are encouraged to think that these dolls may also be planting seeds in the hearts of the next generation so that they too will also hear the cry of injustice and help those in need around the world.

We are selling the dolls for $25.00 each, which includes shipping. One hundred percent of the proceeds from doll sales will be used to improve the conditions and daily life of the children we serve.  You will receive a tax receipt for $15 and will also help to support the people of Africa who sometimes make only $1.00 a day in less creative, undependable employment.  Christmas is right around the corner and we have a limited number of African dolls for sale.  We would love to send one to your home for the holidays.

Grieving 11 Year Old Needs Some Love and Support

At the office of Show Mercy International, we spend our days working together with people like you to help silence the cry of injustice. We occasionally receive news from our staff in Africa alerting us of an urgent situation. These unexpected e-mails are reminders of the harshness of life for the poor-crisis, disease, physical abuse and lives crying out from the many injustices they face.

This week there is a cry coming from Prossy Namatovu, an 11-year-old orphaned girl who needs our help. Prossy once attended our primary school, but for the past year she has had to care for her sick mother and has been unable to attend.  Prossy’s natural father was murdered. There was a plan to murder Prossy and her mother, but they escaped and fled to Gganda Village near Hope Children’s Home.  Prossy’s mother remarried and contracted AIDS from her second husband.  In addition, the stepfather would hit the mother when her weakened condition caused her to urinate on the bed. He originally sent little Prossy away to live with another family because he didn’t want her.  However, he soon realized that he needed help caring for her mother so he brought her back into the home.

When we first heard of her mother’s condition we proceeded to try and provide medical care for her. Unfortunately, we were too late. A few days ago, Prossy’s mother died from the AIDS virus. As we often say:  “This is Africa,” and this is how the needs come; unexpectedly, heart-wrenching and urgent.  Ministering to the poor requires that we be consistently faithful and that we are also able to shift into rescue mode when necessary.  We appreciate the heart of those working together with us who have been helpful so many times in situations like these.  We need a sponsor to provide ongoing care for Prossy Namatovu at Hope Children’s Home and a sponsor to help us re-establish her at our primary school.  If you would like to partner with us and become a sponsor to Prossy, please click here. You can be the one who helps bring hope and life to a person who has been in much pain and darkness.

Just like Prossy, there are many children in similar situations that need our help. You can look online at our website to see dozen’s of children needing someone to say “yes” i will help you experience a better life. Click Here to view many other children needing help.

Thanks in advance for working with us to answer this cry and combat injustice.

Travel to Uganda and Answer the Cry of Injustice

Injustice is everywhere you look. One place you find it in abundance is in the country of Uganda, Africa. Children are living all alone on the streets or in mud huts with no parents or family to love and care for them. The majority of people are struggling every day just to eat. They often resort to digging through trash heaps to find those meals. Little girls are being taken advantage of and abused. Widows have been tossed aside and discarded like they no longer hold any value.

Who can make a difference in their lives? The answer is YOU. There is an opportunity to come with Show Mercy International and make a direct impact and remove these forms of injustice as well as many others. Together, we can replace their hopelessness with love and provision. We encourage you to move from “just making plans to go help” to actually making it a reality by taking action. Today, people need your help!

We are taking a team to Uganda this January to show love and support to the people of Uganda. We want to invite you to join us and experience a life changing time in Africa. Our hearts are being stirred to do even more and begin taking in even more children that are suffering. We are not restricted by a poor economy. We are being called to “sow in a time of famine” and help even more kids! You can work with us to do just that. Below are some basic facts about the trip. Look over our website, read the old updates from our previous trips and watch the videos. We just posted a new video yesterday. Your heart will be moved with compassion.  You can have the opportunity to truly make a direct difference. Consider joining us in January. YOU have something special to offer the people of Uganda.

*Please note that anyone who desires to work long term with Show Mercy in Uganda must first be a part of a  short term team.

Facts:
We will be Leaving as a team on January 13th and will return to the United States on January 26th. The cost of the trip will be approximately $3000. This will include airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, meals, drinking water and administrative fees. (costs are not final until we purchase your airline tickets) To find out more about what we will do on this trip, please visit the following link.

http://www.showmercy.org/get_involved/short_term/.

You can also download a team application from this link.  The deadline for applying for this trip will be December 1, 2008.

We would love to have you join us. We believe that this will be a very special trip for everyone that is a part of this team. If you have any questions, please call 541-791-3566 or email us at info@showmercy.org.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and hopefully working together to make a lasting impact on the life of someone who is waiting to be released from injustice.

“Jajja has not been good the last three days and today is the fourth day she has not had a meal.  This is not because she does not have any food, but because of her current feeling.  We had a 30-minute interaction this evening with her and learned a couple of things.  Four days ago, while in the garden, she got paralyzed and fell down with her legs stuck in one position.  Her right leg hurt so very much that she started crying and screaming for help for someone to come help her. All of a sudden, a stranger (man) that was passing by her garden appeared and Jajja asked him to pick up her hoe and CUT OFF her right leg immediately from the thigh area. The man looked confused and wondered what the old woman was up to.  She insisted the man pick up her hoe and amputate her leg, but the guy simply ignored her and walked away.  After at least 5 hours of unconscious lying down on the ground in pain, she finally managed to crawl to her house in that pain.

I also learned that she has been suffering from what she described as a “needle pricking pain in the joints” for the last year.  She mentioned that currently it’s way too much and yet she does not believe in the doctors’ reports if any.  She sounded worried and hopeless and when I mentioned to her that I knew you would love to revisit her when you come this January, she wondered if she would still be living.

Jajja was scared and wondered if she’d be alive the next day.  So she tried on her red dress that Show Mercy bought her.  The following day I asked everyone that had come around to watch over her.  She clearly declared that she wants to wear your dress on her burial day. She had wanted to keep the dress for “big ceremonies and celebrations” so she had only tried it on when Prossy and I went to take pictures of the dress a couple of months ago.  She put the dress on just a few days ago because she thought she was dying the following day and she didn’t want to miss trying it on.

Grandma’s house almost fell on her about a month ago. She asked a few guys to fix the falling roof the following morning and they did try to support the roof with a few poles to keep it together.

Jajja is such a loving old lady.  Right before I left her home today, I left her with as little as 1,000 Ugandan shillings (62 cents) that brought her “tears of joy.”  I had the opportunity of sweeping her home with a broom she made from leaves.  This act left her all smiles.  She is a lovely old grand mama that is so God loving.  May God totally heal and protect this old lady.

A few people (relatives) have been sleeping at her house due to her current bad health.  But they have to leave every morning to go back to their families and Jajja is alone until late evening when they return to take care of her until the following morning.  Please pray for her as the spirit leads you.
