At the office of Show Mercy International, we spend our days working together with people like you to help silence the cry of injustice. We occasionally receive news from our staff in Africa alerting us of an urgent situation. These unexpected e-mails are reminders of the harshness of life for the poor-crisis, disease, physical abuse and lives crying out from the many injustices they face.

This week there is a cry coming from Prossy Namatovu, an 11-year-old orphaned girl who needs our help. Prossy once attended our primary school, but for the past year she has had to care for her sick mother and has been unable to attend.  Prossy’s natural father was murdered. There was a plan to murder Prossy and her mother, but they escaped and fled to Gganda Village near Hope Children’s Home.  Prossy’s mother remarried and contracted AIDS from her second husband.  In addition, the stepfather would hit the mother when her weakened condition caused her to urinate on the bed. He originally sent little Prossy away to live with another family because he didn’t want her.  However, he soon realized that he needed help caring for her mother so he brought her back into the home.

When we first heard of her mother’s condition we proceeded to try and provide medical care for her. Unfortunately, we were too late. A few days ago, Prossy’s mother died from the AIDS virus. As we often say:  “This is Africa,” and this is how the needs come; unexpectedly, heart-wrenching and urgent.  Ministering to the poor requires that we be consistently faithful and that we are also able to shift into rescue mode when necessary.  We appreciate the heart of those working together with us who have been helpful so many times in situations like these.  We need a sponsor to provide ongoing care for Prossy Namatovu at Hope Children’s Home and a sponsor to help us re-establish her at our primary school.  If you would like to partner with us and become a sponsor to Prossy, please click here.
