Our team of 22 plus our 2 long term families are doing great here in Uganda. We have had two wonderful days spending time with the children at Hope Children’s Home. All of the children are doing really well!
Here is a quick recap of some of our activities:
- Team painted the walls of a classroom. Peter Painter and some of the other children helped too! This was quite a job, but it looks AWESOME and so clean.
- We have a doctor and nurse on our team this trip. They are busy seeing many children and dressing many cuts and wounds. The good news is that he hasn’t found any serious problems with the kids that he has treated.
- Teaching and training times with the children. As we inventory their clothes, we are sharing with them the importance of taking care of what they are given. We will be handing out undergarments, socks, skirts and new pants soon.
- Crafts times with the kids
- Children learning new songs as well as a skit to share out on the streets in their village.
Today our team is heading out to the Field of Dreams (Kaliti Village). Saturday we are going to gather over 50 orphaned children in this village. We will be providing a meal for them and begin building what will be a long term relationship with them. This is one of our favorite things to do. It will be wonderful to begin meeting the children face to face that we will be working with in the near future. (To find out more about our Field of Dreams project, please click here) We need so much help to see this project become a reality. Please pray about being a part of it.
It is great to hear the testimonies of our team each day. One lady shared her experience of “choosing” a child to sponsor. After meeting the children who still needed sponsors, she was overwhelmed at the thought of picking just one. As she was pondering which child to pick, one of those kids who was in need of a sponsor walked up to her and asked, “are you my sponsor”. She said no, but asked if he wanted her to be his sponsor. With a huge smile, he said “YES!” She then knew he was just the right one for her family.
We are excited for these next two weeks and all the great things we have the opportunity to do.
More updates coming soon.
Living on Purpose,
Mike and Lori Salley

“Dead lay in the streets, possibilities of mass burial sights talked about on the radio. People wandering the streets, city parks now filled with people camping out in them. The situation is worst than dreamed!
Yesterday we sent an investigative team to Port-au-Prince (PAP) to take a first hand look at the situation. I will not easily forget what Rodney Gephart and Wayne Snow said when they had returned; “The situation is worse than it has appeared on TV!” My heart sank and instead of crying I felt a numbness come over me as they began telling me of the dead, the buildings that had colapsed and then to hear that they could not find any information on who is doing what as far as cordinated efforts for immediate response and longterm recovery.

We just received word from our friends and partners (YWAM) in Haiti concerning the massive earthquake. There is much devastation, damage and loss of life. They, however, are doing fine and are currently evaluating the damage and assessing how they can be of the greatest assistance to the people. Show Mercy is going to be a part of the relief to these people. We are asking you to consider a donation to our Haiti Fund. 100% of all donations will be used to directly help the hurting people of Haiti.?
