Water Gusher in Uganda! Field of Dreams Update May 18, 2010

 PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST!

Here at Show Mercy we are celebrating! Why you ask? Because we have struck water on our Field of Dreams property. We are talking a GUSHER. Over 2400 gallons are capable of being produced every hour. Now to some of us, that may not seem like a huge deal. In America, we are so used to having access to water, we only realize the hassle and delay it can cause when a water line breaks or something causes our water to stop flowing.

My heart is saddened by the latest news about the Gulf Coast oil spill. The loss of ecological life as well as the effects on those in the fishing industry is terrible. As I pondered this today though, I was struck with a sickness in the pit of my stomach. The headlines and news coverage over the oil spill is definitely needed, but honestly, the death and sickness of people around the world because of contaminated water is astounding. This is not a headline we see very often. Unfortunately, we are somehow able to get past this fact and continue on with life. As long as our water supply is running and it isn’t contaminated, things tend to go as scheduled.

Our responsibility at Show Mercy is to be a VOICE for those that don’t have a voice (or maybe I should say, can’t be heard). You have heard it said lately, that we should be the change we want to see. People are the answer to  solutions. Together, we are one of many solutions. Today we can make a difference for thousands of people in a remote village in Uganda.

Imagine living in the dirt. You don’t have a flush toilet, but rather a deep hole in the ground (if you are lucky). You don’t have a tap to wash your hands and you definitely don’t have a wet wipe to clean with. You have to walk mile and miles to dip your bucket into streams that have been contaminate with sewage and even petroleum products (your water source is like a Gulf Water oil spill EVERYDAY). Collecting water is your “gym” experience every day, but unfortunately, it isn’t building up your body, but rather breaking it down – producing the perfect scenario for arthritis.

For some, the fact that they even have access to water is a blessing, but there is a little more to the story that I want to share.  Have you ever had the stomach flu? I am not trying to be gross, but in order to truly  understand the dire need of the majority of the world, we need to relate. When you get the stomach flu, your body reacts and begins trying to get the bacteria and toxins out of your body. Most of the time this happens through diarrhea and vomiting. We know that if we don’t replenish our bodies with clean fluid, we will get dehydrated. I doubt any of us have gotten so dehydrated that we were on the verge of death. In the developing world, this is exactly what happens. Statistics show that 1.6 million children die every year because of the lack in proper sanitation (this is connected to clean water). IMAGINE the city of Dallas disappearing.

This is the cycle for some. IT IS AVOIDABLE and WE CAN and ARE HELPING. What can I do, you might be asking? Join together with us and spread the word to your friends. If we all “sacrificed” even $20 or $30 a month and put it towards the Field of Dreams, we will make a lasting impact! We are seeing lives changed. We are making a difference, but by working together and being intentional we can see this project come to completion!

We’ve already reported to you that food was multiplied at our last feeding of the village children. We can’t wait to share more and more of all that is happening.

If we believe the impossible, WE WILL SEE MORE AND MORE of the INCREDIBLE coming true. This isn’t just for Africa or other countries either. WE WILL SEE amazing things happen here – why? Because we are saying Yes! Yes to believing with God all things are possible and yes to taking a step towards what seems impossible.
