We are so excited about all the wonderful things that are happening with Show Mercy.  As we continue to grow, we need YOUR help in even a greater way!  We are looking for some people with similar passions that can volunteer to help us in the following ways. As we grow, some of these positions could become fulltime paid positions.  If you can help or are interested in talking more about the tasks at hand, please email us with your information.  This is a great way to touch and save lives everywhere!  We are inviting you to join our Show Mercy team today!

Uganda Volunteers

We are looking for a team to live fulltime (3 months or longer) in Uganda at our Field of Dreams guest house.  We are currently raising funds to establish this facility on the 25 acres we have purchased.  The vision and heart behind this project is to build a place for long term volunteers to live along with 4 to 5 new children’s cottages with a focus of developing the next leaders of Uganda.  This cost of this initial phase is approximately $250,000.  We will begin construction very soon. Sponsorship Coordinator

We need help coordinating the management of our child sponsorship program.  This position is a very important part of what we are doing so we need help in this area. 

Creative Writer

We need someone who can help us create quartley printed newsletters and web updates.  If you have a passion to express pictures with words, then this is just the position for you.

Uganda Missions
If any of you are still on the fence concerning being a part of the Show Mercy International team traveling to Uganda this June, the final deadline is quickly approaching. We are currently are 23 strong and have room for 3 more. Next Wednesday, March 12th is the last chance to apply to be a part of this team. Child Sponsorships

Dear Friends,

I thought I would let someone else talk for a change. :>) This is from Darlene:

How about story books with beautiful pictures for the children? How often
do we donate books children have outgrown instead of sending them to
children who might love to look at the pictures and enjoy them? I have seen
them sit untouched at Goodwill and get kicked around only to be damaged and
destroyed as they are dumped from bin to bin…..why not collect these
books?????? My son and daughter (11 and 9) collected pop bottles in the neighborhood for
an hour today….raised $25…EASY!!! Lia tell me where to send this!!!

What about a loose change jar? Where do you dump your change at the end of
the day? My parents put it in a jar. They are willing to just keep dumping
that change in a jar and then, cash it in and donate the money to the team.

Also…why not go to the Christian schools and have classroom
competitions… similar to pennies for patients… “Money for Mercy” and have
kids bring change and fill buckets for a week or two…winning class gets
ice cream sandwiches (cheap at Freddy’s)….you can easily get several
hundred per school!!! JUST IDEAS!!!!!

Everyone else needs to know something about Darlene. She doesn’t have any free time, just like you, but she chose to participate anyway. She has 3 kids, a job outside of the home, and a recently diagnosed and rapidly deteriorating mother-in-law she is trying to aide, and those are only the things I know about! Darlene is such an encouragement to me and many others even when she is in a position to truly need encouragement for herself. So don’t be “guilted” that she did what many times we do not, be encouraged that someone believed they could do something for others and did! I heard a speaker say, "We don’t stop wanting to win in life. We just stop believing we can."

Also, I commend Darlene on her parenting genius. Most of you know I adore the idea of multi-tasking even if my execution is flawed. :>) She got an hour to do something while two of her kids were out learning and teaching about charity, sacrifice, community involvement, and third world conditions. She got pre-teens to LEAP (Living to Educate ourselves and others About Poverty) for an hour. Brilliant.

I want to introduce you to our good friend Lia Horton. She went with Show Mercy to Uganda back in September. She is a wonderful woman with a lot of spunk. She has presented so many ideas to Show Mercy of things that we can do to help the children even more at Hope Children’s Home; however what sets her apart is that she is taking action. Her heart of compassion is very evident by the time she is taking to get the word out about LEAPing this LEAP year! She spent a few extra weeks at Hope children’s home after our team left. She gave me sheets and sheets of information she collected about each child - that would be over 100 children, so you can just imagine how much time that took. She has moved our hearts by her love for the kids at Hope. She emailed the following letter out to her friends. She is an inspiration to us and I believe if you read her blog, she will be an inspiration to you. ~Lori

It’s Leap Year…Not Step Year

I have heard that J. Paul Getty said, “I would rather have 1% of the efforts of 100 people, than 100% of my own efforts.”

I decided after going 100% for awhile and then giving 0% that smart person was probably right. I need some help. So I did that math for 1% of my efforts… It is 14.4 minutes a day. Could I give 1% of my day to change the world? What about 1% of my income? What about both? What about you? I am only asking that we ponder the question… for now. Would you be willing to try for a little while?

It’s leap year. Leap. Not step year. Leap. What if we leaped into action? What if for just a little while we Lived to Educate ourselves and others About Poverty? Leap.

I have also heard that it takes 21 – 28 days to create a new habit/way of thinking. February has 29 days, 29ish days left in the Lenten Season (till Easter), I know more than 29 kids in Uganda who need some serious immediate help and $29,000 could sure make their home, Hope Children’s Home, a much safer place.

I will send out emails until Easter to share just a little about what I have seen with my own eyes from spending time with these amazing kids. Please consider taking the time to participate in the daily readings/activities and/or forward the information. Or… perhaps use this as a template to share with your friends, family, and associates the charities that are on your heart. What would you turn a L.E.A.P. into? 

I will put 29/29/29 in the subject line so if you don’t want to participate, you can just delete them, or just reply to this email with "remove" in the subject line and I will remove you from the list. This will rarely take you 1% of your day (14.4 minutes), but if you take the time, I guarantee it will change more than 1% of your outlook. It has mine.

“I am so happy for the team that came to Uganda . Because they helped us so much with mosquito nets. Our village is full of mosquitoes which attack and cause malaria on too many people, young and old. Many people have died because of the disease, but now we have nets to help. “Show Mercy helped me so much because according to my age, I couldn’t afford buying a net. I am 75 years old, but I thank God who provides to you money and love to us. I did not have any net but the mosquitoes were coming to me every night and the hospital was my home. But I thank God because now I am ok and since I was given a net, I have not experienced any kind of fever. Your Sincerely, Pheibe Nakato”

"My name is Margaret. I live at Gganda Village. I am 65 years of age. I thank God who heard my cry and answered my prayers. I used to be attacked by malaria fever which is caused by the mosquitoes. Now I am sleeping under a mosquito net and I am free from Malaria. God bless you Show Mercy.” 

Again we want to thank all of you for your prayers and financial support. We are very excited about all the incredible possibilities and opportunities that are before us.
