Everybody Can be Great! Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Needed!

“Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve.  You don’t have to have a college degree or make your subject and verb agree to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love.”
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Do you love to dig up or discover pivotal information?  Deep down, are you Charles Gibson or Barbara Walters?  Would Readers Digest Condensed Version Department hire you immediately upon reading one of your concise articles?

Even if you can’t answer yes to these questions right now, but would some day like to, do we have a job for you! We desperately need researchers and writers to help us more effectively communicate the situation in Uganda to others.  There is so much to do and we can’t do it alone.  We need you and your God-given gifts and abilities, even if they’re not yet fully developed, to spur one another on to fight injustice and more effectively direct our shared resources to pour love out on the amazing people of Uganda.  You can help an entire country by doing what you love.  Will you help?

Here are just a few topics we need your help to research:

  • Food Shortages
  • The Education Crisis
  • Teacher Certification in Uganda
  • Shipping Containers to Uganda
  • Available Grants
  • Establishing a Library
  • Real estate in Uganda
  • Which NPO’s (Non-Profit Organizations) and NGO’s (Non-Governmental Organizations) would partner with SMI?

Do you live on your computer?  Do you swiftly and effortlessly navigate Facebook,  Myspace,  Plaxo and the like?  Are you a connection machine and have more cyber “friends” than anyone else you know?  Would you know how to monitor a bulletin board, (like the one we want on showmercy.org) and pull all of the spam, but keep the authentic comments coming?  Are you in the process of becoming this guy/gal?  You can help the children of Uganda by doing what you already enjoy!  Will you?

Do you have unlimited minutes on your cell phone plan?  Could you get the Queen’s Royal Guard to break rank and have a chat?  Are you known for your attention to detail?  You can help to send mailings, fill orders, put on benefits/events and pledge drives, keep Show Mercy and the plight of the oppressed in the papers, on the radio and T.V. and /or come up with creative ways to say “Thank you” to everyone who is helping us to reach out in love, one person at a time.  You can do what you are great at and make yourself and others feel great at the same time.  Will you partner with Show Mercy International?

As God is expanding and blessing Show Mercy, we need partners like you who would be willing to donate two hours a week, about 1.33% of your week, to answer the cry of injustice.  Two hours — so little can mean so much to the hundreds of poverty stricken people you help SMI to encourage now, that will one day be thousands.  It is worth it.  Especially if we do it together!

Simply contact us at info@showmercy.org or call us at 541-791-3566 with which position you would like to volunteer for and whether you will be coming to the office on Tuesdays for team meetings or just working from home via email.  Friends like you make “answering the cry of injustice” possible.  Thank you!

Hoping to be known for drawing out your gifting and joyfully serving alongside of you,

Mike and Lori Salley

Special Dolls with a Special Mission

Some special dolls were made for Show Mercy International with a special mission–to help us silence the cry of injustice!  Purchase of these dolls helps us to positively impact the lives of the children we serve.

Africans love to wear vivid colors and patterns in their native clothing. These dolls were handmade with love in Uganda using a wonderful array of authentic African fabrics of bright shades and happy patterns.  The dolls depict the native styles of Ugandan men and women.  The male dolls look smart wearing their brightly colored pants and tunic tops.  The female dolls are wearing traditional dresses and have tiny babies wrapped up on their backs.  Their faces and curly black hair are all hand stitched.

We believe this unique gift will bring delight to its receiver. One mother who purchased a male doll told us that her son sleeps with his African boy doll each night.  We are encouraged to think that these dolls may also be planting seeds in the hearts of the next generation so that they too will also hear the cry of injustice and help those in need around the world.

We are selling the dolls for $25.00 each, which includes shipping. One hundred percent of the proceeds from doll sales will be used to improve the conditions and daily life of the children we serve.  You will receive a tax receipt for $15 and will also help to support the people of Africa who sometimes make only $1.00 a day in less creative, undependable employment.  Christmas is right around the corner and we have a limited number of African dolls for sale.  We would love to send one to your home for the holidays.
