Child Sponsorship

Sponsoring a child monthly is a great way to have an incredible impact on the life a child in Uganda. The children in Uganda are constantly praying that God will move upon someone’s heart to parter with Show Mercy to help them reach the purpose and destiny. They also pray daily for those who have blessed them with provision and resources through the child sponsorships. Many of the children that are available for sponsorships are children who have been living in some incredibly severe conditions of neglect or abuse. You can help rescue a child today and make a lasting difference in the life of another human being with so much potential and purpose. Watch the video to see what your sponsorship can do to impact and transform a life.

Your support and generous heart to reach out in love, one child at a time, is greatly appreciated!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What kind of benefits does my sponsored child receive through my sponsorship?
A:  Sponsorship affects every area of the child’s life. Care Sponsorship help to provide for the daily care of children living in homes provided by Show Mercy International.  This includes food, medical care when needed, clothing as well as the salaries for the many staff that are needed to provide care and pour out love to the children of Uganda. Education Sponsorships provides for the school fees for a child to receive an education that is vital to them being able to have a fulfilling life in Uganda. This sponsorship will also provide for school uniforms, shoes and one meal per day during lunch when the child is attending school. If the child you sponsor doesn’t live in a children’s home, you would be an Education Sponsor.

Q:  As a sponsor, what will I receive throughout the year?
A:  First and foremost, you will receive the incredible blessing that comes helping a child in need. The Bible tells us that it is better to give than to receive. We believe that to be the truth. Secondly, once we receive your first monthly gift of $35, we will send you a sponsorship package which includes a photo and information on your child. Please allow a few weeks to receive this initial packet. Throughout the year you will receive a monthly receipt for each payment sent.  We will also do our best to provide you with a yearly update on your individual child.

Q: Can I write my child?
A: Yes. If you would like to write to them, sending a letter of introduction along with a picture of yourself and your family would be appropriate.  You may continue to write your child as often as you wish.  Simply include any correspondence along with your monthly gift and we will be glad to forward it on to your child.  We understand that, as a sponsor, you might want to hear from your child regularly. However, through our experiences in Uganda, it can be very difficult and costly to receive communication at times.  Our primary purpose is to help our partners in Uganda by providing assistance that will lighten their loads. Since we are focused on helping them and not creating additional workloads, we feel that asking them to having hundreds of children respond to every letter that a sponsor may write would be asking too much. This would add additional pressures and expenses that are incurred by our partners that live in remote locations without personal transportation. It can be extremely difficult to send regular packages to the US. Please do not be discouraged if your child does not write as often as you would like. We are all partnering together to see the lives of children impacted and changed through love. You can rest assured that they are very excited about being sponsored and will probably treasure your letters and photos for a lifetime.

Q: May I send gifts to my child?
A:
Occasionally there will be opportunities to send small items with Show Mercy teams that travel to Uganda. However, we are very limited in our abilities to carry items that are large, heavy or bulky in our luggage. Each year during the Christmas and Summer, you will have the opportunity to get involved in helping us provide a nice feast for the kids as well as a gift and new clothes for each child. We recommend that you take part in that opportunity when it is made available.

Q: May I visit my sponsored child?
A: Yes and we encourage it. By being a part of Show Mercy International teams that travel abroad a few times a year, you can have the chance to meet and spend quality time with your sponsored child. We ask that you do this through a Show Mercy trip and not independently, however.

Q: How much of my child sponsorship will actually go to helping the kids?
A: Show Mercy understands our responsibility to be efficient with resources that have been entrusted to us. Our goal is to see that 100% of the monthly child sponsorship funds are used to directly support the needs of the children that we are serving in Uganda.

Q: What if my child moves or leaves the program?
A: On occasions, your child may have to move or withdraw from the sponsorship program.  There can be any number of reasons for this occurring. When this happens, we will inform you and give you the opportunity to sponsor another wonderful child in need of your support and love.

Q: Will Show Mercy send me a reminder when my child’s support comes due?
A:
You have the option of paying for the whole year at one time, or donating monthly. We encourage you to consider either setting up an automatic “bill pay” with your bank, setting up a monthly electronic debit from your account (echeck) or providing a credit or debit card for us to charge each month to cover your sponsorship. Each month you will receive a receipt for your donation. If you choose to donate monthly by check, we will also include a remittance envelope with your receipt for you to mail your next donation in.

Q: What if my financial situation changes and I can no longer fulfill my monthly commitment?
A:
You are free to discontinue your support for any reason at any time you desire or feel that it is necessary to do so.
